I called Brian on Saturday morning at 9:00, he was at my home at 11:00 and was able to save the data. .  He had to take the laptop to his shop in order to replace the hard drive with a brand new one.  I really needed it back quickly and he went above and beyond by making sure I had it back by Sunday morning and even stayed and loaded on the programs that I needed for my documents and files.  He also downloaded back up programs for me and showed me how to manage them to ensure I wouldn’t lose any files if anything like this were to happen in the future……He literally saved my laptop as well as saving me from hours of work to restore everything that could have been lost… And I must add that for coming to my home twice  — on a weekend no less — his rates were more than fair….

Description of work:

Brian saved my laptop !  Hard drive decided it just didn’t want to operate any longer and froze my entire computer….major disaster for me as I have several company files, documents, and QuickBooks files on it.

02/19/2011 – KATIE DAVIN

My 6-year-old laptop was toast. It made a noise and shut down. When I turned it back on, it beeped loudly and would not boot up. I called Brian at Computer RX, and he was up for the challenge. (I dropped the computer off at his office, but he does do house calls.) He called after he figured out the problem — one of the memory banks was destroyed. The other bank still worked, so he replaced the 256 chip in that one with a 1G chip. He also replaced the hard drive, since he could tell that it was failing. This whole process only took a few days. Now I am back in action, typing this report on that same laptop, which now runs faster. The $285 was painful, but a lot cheaper than buying a new computer.

Description of work: Computer RX diagnosed the problem, replaced the hard drive, increased the memory, and tested the system.

06/17/2014 – CURT VANNAH

We had set up a new company web page and web address and the supposed professionals at Go Daddy left us in the lurch when it came to setting up the email address.  After over an hour on the phone with Go Daddy, we were unable to send of receive emails to our new email address.  Go Daddy said we would have to have someone come to out to our house and troubleshoot the issues.   
We did a quick search on Angie’s List and came up with Brian Cherry from Computer RX.   
Brian listened to our problem, quickly set up a remote connection and went to work on the desktop.  He methodically went through all the settings and within an hour had everything set up and working perfectly.  He was so pleasant and easy going and a true professional to deal with.  We could not be more pleased with everything and his price was more than reasonable.  We would have gladly payed even double what he charged us.  Great guy, great company!

I saw his reviews in Angie’s list and decided to call him with a question about my computer being slow. He was helpful before I had even decided to hire him. I told him that I did not drive and my computer was broken and he offered to pick it up at home free from extra charge. He gave me a quote for the price of the repairs later that day. The price was fair and I accepted, and he delivered the computer repaired to me the next day. We were so impressed that we asked him to fix another computer in the house. He also came by later to help us with a lack of internet connection and did not charge us anything extra for that. We were happy with his professionalism and we trusted his honesty.

 

Description of work:

He repaired my desktop, which was very slow because of malware in only one day. Then he repaired my husband’s laptop, which needed a new hard drive. When we had problems with our internet connection, he came home and made sure it worked.

He was fast, reliable and went out of his way to fix everything in good time.

It couldn’t have gone better, less than 24 hours from calling Brian to his returning with the freshly scrubbed computer. He was punctual, professional and cheerful, even under my barrage of stunningly ignorant questions. It’s such a relief to have a resource like Computer Rx nearby.

Description of work:

Malware invaded my computer, which Brian removed as well as cleaning out years of dust and  installing a program that detects malware . He picked up the computer , delivered it back,  hooked it up again and then checked to make sure everything was working well.

08/24/2010 – John Jordan (John R Jordan, PhD)

Brian has been with me every step of the way, and remarkably available to consult with when I have been stuck. He did the main transfer of data and OS downgrade successfully. He then, on a separate occasion, helped me trouble-shoot some problems with synching my PDA with my new computer. And he just helped me today with a small glitch in my Office software – he was able to do this remotely, without my having to take the computer to him, by using software that he installed on my machine that allows him to access (with my permission) my computer and diagnose the problem and fix it. Pretty cool! Overall, he has been great to work with and a great help. I will definitely use him again for computer problems of any and all types.

 

Description of work:

I purchased a new laptop, and needed to “migrate” my data from the old laptop to the new one. I also needed to downgrade the Windows 7 OS on the new laptop back to Windows XP, so that my software on the old computer would be compatible. I have also had to consult with Brian a couple times after making the transfer about glitches that have come up subsequently in getting the data transferred over and the programs up and running.

Brian is great. He is always patient and calm, which I am not when I have a computer problem. He doesn’t give up, but keeps trying until he finds a solution.

Description of work:

Helped recover significant lost data when I upgrading my Timeslip program. Also took care of other technical issues.

I called Brian and although he was busy at the time, he called me back a little later as promised.   
The issues were on my computer that I use for my business billing, and QuickBooks.   
He was able to remotely review my computer and make diagnosis.  He ran some malware identifying programs which discovered some attachments which were removed.  He ran some additional programs and removed other nonessential items.   
I had installed the Cloud back up, but it wasn’t working. Bryan finished the process needed and made sure the backup was working. 
He spent a Friday evening and Saturday morning working on the issues.   
I was extremely pleased with how quickly he was able to repair my laptop and that he could work on it remotely.  Thus saving downtime for my business. 
I felt very comfortable with the remote usage as I could see what he was doing on my computer.  Bryan was very good about explaining what was happening and why.  I learned a lot and Bryan will be the only person I will call for computer help. 
I would highly recommend Computer RX for both businesses and personal computer concerns.

I called Brian at his shop after I decided to retrieve my computer from the ganefs.  He explained his services including his availability in the evening; advantage of having a business next door to his home.  I arrived.  He examined my computer.  Replaced the defective part while I waited.  I requested some additional work which he quickly performed as well. 

Description of work:

My computer was not working properly and I had taken it into a “big box” office supply store for diagnosis.  They did not perform the diagnosis; merely tried to sell me a new computer.

I retrieved my computer and brought it to Brian.  He immediately examined the computer to find that the problem was not any of the issues claimed by the office supply store.  It was merely a $20 part which had gone bad and he replaced it with one he had on hand. 

I had him do some upgrade and general maintenance while he had my machine open.

Fair price.  Good work. 

In this high tech world, it is easy to get cheated when you do not have a high tech education.  I am so thankful for honest people with his skills and knowledge.

Within 2 days we had the computer back, no data lost, everything seems to be working great and for the price quoted! My grandparents are thrilled and so am I!

Description of work:

My grandfather’s pc was acting up, wouldn’t allow us to log in etc, and it turned out it had 3 nasty viruses. Apparently there was damage to the OS as well. I called Brian, he was able to start working on it that day and if it hadn’t been for a snowstorm would’ve had it back to us within 24 hrs.

I’m a problem-solver, and I expect those who perform services for me to be of the same ilk. This is where Brian excels. He’ll do extensive research to get to the bottom of a problem. For over the course of a year, I would constantly get blue screens and the computer would freeze. Since Brian didn’t install new software (other than Windows 7), I thought it was a hardware problem or one of my XP programs. Over the course of a year, Brian would take over my computer remotely and try to solve the issue. We were both frustrated because we couldn’t find the source of the problem, but Brian persevered. Most contractors would have given up or started charging a consulting fee, but not this perfectionist. Without boring you, here’s how the problem was discovered: One day the computer froze and I heard a humming sound from my speakers. I recorded how my computer and peripherals were set-up and sent the video to Brian. He found the problem instantly! My rather large battery back-up was situated right next to the CPU. I had thought it was shielded from interfering with the computer, but I was mistaken. As soon as I placed the battery about two feet away, the problem was fixed. I have had my computer on continuously for the past five days without freezing or getting any blue screens. Brian Cherry bent over backwards as I would have done for any one of my customers.

I am more than happy to highly recommend Brian Cherry and RX Computer for new builds, upgrades, and repairs.

Towards the end of 2010, I was in desperate need of a new CPU, so I naturally browsed Angie’s List for a reputable builder. From the glowing reviews I read about Brian Cherry and RX Computer, it was an easy choice. I wanted the absolute best components on the market and Windows 7 (upgrading from Windows XP), and Brian made excellent recommendations, even the CPU case was beautiful and well-made. Probably the greatest strength of this individual is his ability to communicate. When I was ready for Brian to build the CPU, I had absolutely no reservations that this was the person to put it all together.

It was a very pleasant experience considering I don’t know squat about computers. I told him that and he said no problem, He took over the controls as I watched and listened on the phone. He completely cleaned my computer and deleted things I didn’t need.

I called the company to set up a appointment and he called back the same day. I went on line and he gave me a code so he could access my computer via his office in Rhode Island, While still on the phone with him he completely cleaned my computer and answered any questions. Great guy, I would and will use his services again. It took about 1 enjoyable hour.

Brian is, in a word, awesome. I got a quote from the “big guys” that was more than twice what Brian charged me and that didn’t include a new PC. He knows his stuff, has amazing prices, and his service can’t be beat. He won’t sell you stuff you don’t need and if he runs into any problems, he sticks with the issue until it gets resolved. We hit a snag on the install (not his fault) where he had to bypass a previously installed firewall (I didn’t have the username or password). It took an extra 3 hours to resolve, but he was not going to let it go until everything was right. I’ll never use another tech service or buy a computer from anyone else again. Whether it’s for your personal computer use or a small business, Brian from Computer RX is who you should be using to service your tech needs.

Built me a new server for my small business as well as a PC, connected 8 workstations and 9 users to the new server and joined them all to the new domain, set up printer and shared files, transferred all of the data and programs from the old server and workstations to new machines.

Brian cleaned out the Malware from my desktop pc. He cleaned the entire computer and took out the Bad Ram and updated the memory with new Ram (2 sticks of 1 gb each, 2 GBS ram total). The computer kept locking up (freezing) while attempting to use it.
